Today is Setsubun (節分) in Japan.
It is the day before the beginning of spring and it means “seasonal division”.

On the day, we have a special ritual called Mamemaki(豆まき) which is bean scattering to cleanse away all the evil of the former year and drive away disease.

Most of the people enjoy the ritual at home but if you are in Japan on Setsubun, a lot of shrines and temples have special events on the day. If you would like to join them, please feel free to contact us. 😉
