The other day, we attended a wedding ceremony of our friend. The ceremony was held at 龍城神社 “Tatsuki Shrine” which is located next to Okazaki Castle inside the Okazaki Park.

It was a lovely sunny day. The bride and groom looked great in their traditional kimono with the clear blue sky in the background.

The ceremony is called 神前式 “Jinzenshiki” which is a traditional Japanese formal wedding style. The bride is dressed in a white wedding kimono called shiromuku, and has a tall elegant tied-up hairstyle, which will be covered with the bride’s hood. The groom traditionally wears a haori and hakama (kimono for men) with the family crest .

Purification is important for the ceremony, therefore the bride and groom will drink three cups of sake as shinto music and dance will be performed.

It was great experience for all, including my 4-year-old son who sat quietly during the Jinzenshiki. Afterwards, a wedding party was held at the nearby hotel and everybody had a wonderful time celebrating with the newlyweds.
